Today I’m going to talk about a topic I’ve come across over time. Many of my patients have asked me about breast implants and pregnancy, things you should know when you want to have a baby.
Most women notice that after pregnancy and after breastfeeding, their breasts lose their firmness and change their original shape. This is due to a combination of the effects that pregnancy has on the breasts in terms of their appearance, physiology and function. Then comes the breastfeeding period and after breastfeeding and the breasts lose their firmness, shape and tone.
What is the most appropriate intervention after pregnancy?
Each case is different, but most of the time we talk about mastopexy, the cosmetic breast lift operation. It is recommended for women who have excess skin on the breasts. Pregnancy makes the breasts stretch, so I often recommend a combination of augmentation, plus breast lift. Usually, women with small breasts before pregnancy do not need to lift their breasts, but only to enlarge and reposition them, for a harmonious appearance.
Can the procedure be performed even before a pregnancy?
Yes, if you are planning to have a baby, you should consider a period of at least 6 months between surgery and pregnancy. It is the first thing you need to keep in mind when making such a decision. Afterwards, it is good to schedule a consultation to examine yourself and talk about your grievances and appropriate recommendations.
Do implants affect the health of the mother or child?
Fortunately, this does not happen before, during or after pregnancy. Although breasts can change, as is normal, you don’t have to worry about their durability and viability.
Is it possible to breastfeed after a breast implant operation?
Normally, as long as you take into account the recovery period, not earlier than 6 months after the intervention. The implant placement technique is specially designed, delimiting the milk-producing glands.
If you are in this position and you still have questions and doubts, I am waiting for you at a consultation in which we go through all the fears and myths that concern you.
